WHO WE ARE

Here at Discovery Village we are passionate about early education. Ninety percent of a child’s brain growth happens by age five. One million neural connections are made every second in response to a child’s experiences. It is these moments in the first few years of life that shape how a child’s brain develops. Research tells us that brain connections are shaped most by meaningful positive relationships and enriched learning opportunities and lay the foundation for all future learning. This knowledge is at the core of our educational philosophy.

For many children, preschool is their first experience away from their parents. Teachers utilize positive behavior approaches in classroom management and promote emotional intelligence through modeling and coaching. We encourage children’s budding social skills by facilitating cooperative play and promoting healthy foundations for peer relationships.

Our meadow and classrooms provide children a beautiful playspace with carefully curated toys and activities to encourage curiosity and a love of learning. Routines and rhythms are at the heart of our school days and promote wholistic growth and development.

Our teachers’ warmth and experience paired with carefully chosen curriculums, provide consistency and continuity across classrooms. We treasure the opportunity to share in creating moments that promote healthy brain development and a love of learning.

We encourage families to schedule a time to meet with one of our teachers to learn more about our program and tour the facility. Tours can be setup by calling 253-858-4835.

We are excited to get to know you as a family. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

Our name is at the heart of our spirit. We believe that discovery, curiosity, and play are at the core of all learning. We have an indoor play space that enables children to engage in various types of gross motor play year-round. Students have daily opportunities to leave their classrooms and use their energy to run, climb, laugh and play (regardless of the weather outside). Active play is necessary for children to focus on and participate in structured learning activities.

2's Class

The world of two-year-olds is magical. The immense brain development that occurs at this stage transforms once quiet toddlers into talkative moving machines! During this stage children begin to combine words to express themselves. Within one year they will transition from two word combinations to speaking in full sentences enabling them to express their ideas, interests, and needs. Research suggests that children this age acquire between two to eight new vocabulary words each day! Our classes are structured around weekly themes to expose children to new ideas, vocabulary, and sensory experiences. The integration of exploration and play, paired with an introduction to pre-academic skills, provides a strong foundation for curiosity and love of learning.

3's Class

Following explosive growth in movement and language skills, three-year-olds love to share their budding personalities and new-found passions. Children’s capacity to explore their environment and learn through imitation builds self-care skills and a new found independence, which children are often delighted to demonstrate. Improved problem solving-skills create opportunities to introduce more engaging academic foundations, such as number sense, patterns and sequences, and pre-literacy skills. Three-year-olds usher in a season of expanded imaginations and an ability to integrate information they have gleaned from school with their own lived experiences. No longer mimicking and absorbing vocabulary, they are ready to engage and explore more complex ideas. This stage is filled with growing self-confidence and captivating wonder about the world around them.

Pre-K

Children in pre-k have honed so many foundational motor, social, emotional, and language skills that this stage centers around peer relationships, cooperation, and budding academic independence. Children not only recognize numbers and letters, but gain better understanding of their symbolic meaning and how they can be used for reading and solving problems. Many children now know classroom rules and routines and can follow them more fluidly with less adult support. These foundations enable them to explore a higher level of critical thinking and solidify foundational academic skills in order to be well prepared for their transition to kindergarten.
