Hi, I’m Amanda Marley-Clarke, a Canadian from Vancouver, BC that assumed the town of Belfair was a sub-division of Bellis Fair in Bellingham, WA. Well, that bubble was soon burst after my first four hour trip here. Twenty years, and two kids later, I’m finally realizing this might be permanent. I miss my people but have been lucky enough to find new people and new places, one of my favorite being Discovery Village.
Pre-motherhood, I used to ask my mother friends about certain things and their response was always, “It’s hard to explain. You’ll find out when you have kids.” I felt like it was a club I would never be a part of and now, here I am, mother of two boys ages 4 and 6. I’ve worked in the stock market, project management for a large gold company, wrote the news at a TV station and trained to be an air traffic controller. But, nothing could have prepared me for my career as a mother. This ”job” has given me great challenges, but even greater rewards.
Thank you to Discovery Village, my favorite place, for providing me a platform for my perspective on this interesting journey. This blog will be a mix of personal stories, topics of interest and upcoming events for Discovery Village. But, whatever you do, don’t mistake this for an advice column. I am an expert on nothing. I’m just trying to figure it out as I go.
